DICOM Interoperability at Q8PACS meeting

On Nov. 7,2009 Q8PACS first meeting was held at AlSabah hospital training center. At 10:15 am the meeting started with a selected topic entitled "Introduction to DICOM interoperability" presented by Hussein AlSayiegh.
During this session, general concepts about DICOM were introduced. For example, DICOM services, DICOM SOPs, and DICOM conformance statment.

The three essential parameters needed to start DICOM communication were discussed. They are the IP address/or hostname, port no., Application Entity (AET). furthermore, practical tips and best practices of PACS managment were introdcued. A Modality Intgeration Form V1.01 (HTML, DOCwas presented. This form is ment to help PACS admin to make the modality integration easy by submitting PACS/RIS info to the new modality engineer and should make it easy for the PACS vendor's engineer to configure the new modality.

Discussion about the future of the club was held. The club decided that the main goal of forming this club is Educational !! By elivating level of PACS admins and other PACS/RIS users we can improve quality of services of the imaging departments. "By sharing experience we can avoid a lot of mistakes in the future"; Q8PACS member added. Finally , Q8PACS aims to set standards which will help in bringing our mission.

On Nov. 14,2009, the postponed practical session was held at 10:00 AM. The
session was fantastic, where members installed and configured a free DICOM workstation called KPACS.
members had a chance to go through the nice features like DICOM Send/Reciece, DICOM query/retrieve, DICOM tag edit, and DICOM offline media (CD burning).

Finally, members have agreed to form an educational committe to establish a curriculim which can meet their goals.

After that meeting, members seemed very proud of their selves and for making this meeting to happpen.
